It's out with the old and in with the new as we say goodbye to 2004 tonight. However you choose to see in the new year, be good to each other, be safe and above all have fun. See you next year.
With Christmas having come and gone the winter holidays are quickly winding down. With the only thing left to do now is welcome in the new year. I've been sitting here this morning pondering what New Years resolutions I might come up with. Yes, you know those silly well meant promises we make to ourselves that are most generally forgotten or tossed by the wayside within the first week of making them. So this New Years I have decided no New Years resolutions, I resolve NOT to resolve. But then again I guess in resolving not to resolve I have made a New Years resolution after all. So how about it anyone out there making any New Years resolutions? That's it for now. Later
As you may have noticed upon arriving here I decided it was time for a change. Instead of messing around with a new template I just changed the background color. And don't go reading anything into the new color of black, it has nothing to do with my mood or anything. I chose black because I believe it works as a better background for my pic's. Let me know what you think. That's it for now. Later.
I ended up at my brother's house for Christmas, along with my sister and her family. And surprisingly we all got along a lot better then we usually do when we get together. Got the gifts opened and had a nice dinner. But mostly we played Jinga and watched football. And before I knew it, it was time to go back to work again this morning. Leaving me to wonder how in the hell it is that four days can go by so fast with the work week upon me again. But all in all it wasn't so bad at work today considering it was a Monday after a long weekend. But there is a plus, in that this is another short three day week. Can't wait for Wednesday to get here. Although I'm still not what I am going to do for new years yet. That's it for now. Later.
May the peace and joy that this day is meant to represent find it's way into your life. And may you be surrounded by family and friends to enjoy the gifts and feasts on this seasonal holiday. Merry Christmas!!!
I like days like today, that being, I worked but I didn't work. Actually it was a little surprise I got from my boss yesterday. We were scheduled to be off from today until Monday, a four day holiday weekend , can't beat that. So how did I work without working today? Well, as my boss was filling out my time card for manpower he put down the ten hours I had worked Monday through Wedesnday which I expected. But then he put down ten hours for today and told me you came in tomorrow and did some things for me if anyone asks. That gave me my forty hours for the week. I'd say I have a good boss.
Took advantage of this extra day off today and got my Christmas shopping done. Ok, so yeah I'm one of those last minute people. Though I didn't go out till after noon, I was working up the courage to go out. The courage wasn't really for facing the maddening crowds, though that was part of it, but because of what I call the IFFH syndrome. That being "It's F**king Freezing Here"!!! But I braved the cold got done and got back home. Now all that's left to do is the wrapping. That's it for now. Later.
I think I need a few more hours in the day, or at least in the evening. By the time I get home from work it's already around six o'clock and I always seem to run out of time before I get everything done I want to. Tonight I'm doing things differently, I'm gonna do a posting before I get caught up reading other blogs.
I did go to my sister Sunday evening where we all got together to out to eat before my nephew was scheduled to return to Iraq this week. We went to this buffet style place and I had this chicken dish. I don't remember what it was called but it was good....spicy good. This dish was soooo spicy good it should have come with a fire extinguisher on the side. I'm just glad I don't heart burn that easily. All in all we had and good time and managed to forget for a short time the reason for this send off party.
Ok, I'm off to visit a few sites before the witching hour hits and I find myself unable to keep my eyes open any longer.
One of the things I like best about the holiday season are the goodies that come along with the season. And there is nothing better then a big plate of home made fudge. And believe it or not I made the fudge pictured above.
My brother doing his best Griswold impersonation. I'm going to have to get over one of these nights to get a pic when it's all lit up.
Ok, so now I'm off to my sister's for a little dinner get together for my nephew before he goes back to Iraq on Tuesday. That's it for now. Later.
The end of another work week is here again. As far as I'm concerned this week couldn't end soon enough. Reason for that is out at work we were having what I call a Murphy week, you know as in Murphy's Law. Because whatever could go wrong it seemed did go wrong, and it was starting to wear on peoples nerves. It all seemed to center around head butting with the hospital and trying to do our construction while staying within the parameters of their quirky rules we have to follow. According to the hospital we are expected to do construction in a squeaky clean area and also somehow be invisible to all others around the hospital. And though we try our best to abide by these rules, if you have ever been around construction work then you know how hard that can be.
Now what we have got to realize is number one, there are always going to be weeks like this every now and then. And next, the hospital is the hospital and they are not going to change just for us so we need to deal, move on and get the job done. Which I feel confident we will do.
I'm off to catch up on some of my blog reading. Hope you all have a great weekend. That's it for now. Later.
What do you know I'm still awake, must be finally starting to shake this cold. Unlike last night when the cold was trying to kick my ass. By the time I got home from work I barely had time to do anything before I ended up zonking out. In fact I just had time enough to call and wish my brother and sister happy birthday. Nope they're not twins just lucky enough (I think) to be born on the same day a year apart. I'm just glad I'm shaking this cold, I hate being sick. Other then that not much else going on. Still hoping to hook another buyer for the house so I can put my plan to move back in motion again. That's it for now. Later.
Ok, here's the weekend update. I did go to the casino Friday night and must say had some fun that night. Got lucky and hit a small jackpot and spent most of my time there playing with their money. I didn't leave there a rich guy but I didn't leave broke either. The main thing was I got out of this house for a while. Today went by pretty fast considering I slept away most of the afternoon. Actually what happened was I woke up this morning with my nose running like a raging river. So I went down and got me some dimetapp cold medicine and just rested today. I only hope it didn't screw me up for getting sleep tonight. So I'm off to get some things done I should have done this afternoon. That's it for now. Later.
The weekend is here and I've decided to change the pace of things. As soon as my check arrives in the mail today I'm off to make a day and night of it. It's road trip time. First I'm headed to my sister's in Topeka to visit a little with my nephew before he has to go back to Iraq. Then this evening I'll be headed to Harrah's located just north of where my sister lives. I know I can't really afford to do this, but I can't afford to stay cooped up in this house another weekend without going totally stir-crazy. Not to worry I know my limits, besides I just might win. I'll post how it goes later this weekend. Wish me luck. That's it for now. Later.
Ever had one of those days that started out so good you just wanted to turn around and go back to bed. Well that's the way my day started out yesterday. Here lately I've been going in a little earlier so I can grab a bit of breakfast. Yesterday I was running a little behind schedule so I decided to just run in and grab a cup of orange juice to go. I got the OJ and headed over to the checker to pay for it. I set it down on the little counter next to the register and went to reach into my pocket to pay for it, and that's when IT happened. Yep, you guess it, my arm caught the top of the cup tipping it and sending orange juice flying across the room (well it seemed like it was), including onto the lady in line behind me. So yeah, there I was suddenly on like center stage with every eye in the place on me, turning so many shades of red I'm sure Rudolph would have been envious. All the while stuttering apologies and wishing I could shrink small enough to crawl into the crack of the floor tile and hide. Talk about embarrassed, wow. The lady behind me was really a good sport about it all telling me not to worry about it, even though I'm sure she didn't appreciate the sticky feeling she had the rest of the day. So anyhow I paid for what I had spilled, got a replacement cup of OJ (this time with a lid on it) and got out of there before anything else could happen, still felling rather foolish. But then I had to remind myself that hey shit happens get over it and move on. I did and the rest of the day went by pretty well. Sure hope everyone else's week has gone better. That's it for now. Later.
Over the weekend a surprise flew into Kansas City international airport, that being my sister's oldest boy who has been in Iraq since last June. He's not back for good just home for a two week leave. I know my sister was excited and when I talked to him on the phone he was certainly excited to be home. You know with all the stuff going down in Iraq being as terrible as it is it takes on a different meaning when there's a family member involved. The tension, worrying and concern steps up a few levels more. We will all enjoy these next two weeks with him home. And I can, for at least two weeks, not have to hold my breath every time I hear another soldier has been killed over there and praying the phone will not ring with bad news. Sadly enough though that's what my family, as well as all to many more families will go through as long as this war continues. That's it for now. Later.
Ever wanted to just say screw this I'm not doing anything or going anywhere. That's just what I did this weekend. Oh, I went into the weekend with some things I had planned on getting done, but when I woke up Friday I said the hell with it and decided to have what basically amounts to what you could call a lazy weekend. Kind of like a little vacation without going anywhere. And I must say it felt kinda nice being able to just kick back and forget about things for a while. Too bad it can't be done more often. Ok, so I didn't stay in the house the entire time, after all I had to go and put my check in the bank Friday afternoon. The bank branch I used is located in our Wal-Mart store. Now either I wasn't thinking or I had a secret death wish because going to Wal-Mart during the Christmas shopping season and just after military payday is just not a smart thing to do. Ok ok, I just wasn't thinking because I sure as hell don't have a death wish. And another thing you don't do around here on or just after military payday is try and drive anywhere because every driver on the road is driving like they took stupid pills. And this past Friday they were all driving like they had OD on them. I was never more happier to get home and off the road.
I was going to go out and take some pic's today but as you can tell from the pic below the rain put an end to that plan. Thank goodness it wasn't any colder then it was today or we might have gotten our third snowfall of the year. And there you have the story of my lazy weekend. Now it's time to start getting ready to rejoin the world for the new work week. That's it for now. Later.
Yes I'm still around. I've intended to post the last couple of nights but I guess everything is catching up with me. Whatever everything is. Anyhow as I sat here thinking of what to post suddenly tiredness would come over me and the next thing I knew I was asleep in my chair. Hmmm maybe I need to change my sleep habits and get more sleep.
Today ushered in the month of December. Yes, as hard as it is to believe it is December already. December, the month that brings about joy, merriment and parties galore, oh yeah and Christmas. And what better way to start the month that brings us Christmas then by watching that timeless classic Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer. Of which is one of my favorite Christmas specials, well that and the Charlie Brown Christmas, White Christmas and yes even It's A Wonderful Life. But I'd still have to say Rudolph tops the list. Yep, the season of Christmas is upon us. What's you're favorite Christmas special? That's it for now. Later.
